HOW TO COME TO TRAVNIK?

Main road M – 5 passes through Travnik, and it connects the city with other centers. This road communication connects Sarajevo and Banja Luka. It is very busy traffic communication. You can come by regional road R – 413 to Travnik, which leads from Banja Luka, over Skender Vakuf and Vlasic to Travnik. The bus station is placed in the center of the city. There are everyday buss lines to Sarajevo, Zenica, Banja Luka, Livno, Tuzla and Bihac, and also international lines to Split, Zagreb, Rijeka. Certain days of week, busses to Austria, Germany, Switzerland and other European countries, leave the bus station in Travnik.

Travnik used to communicate by the railway to the rest of the world. Austria-Hungary brought railway to Travnik, and also electricity and all others things that represent industrial period. Popular “Ciro” used to go from station Lasva, over the Vitez, Dolac, Travnik, Donji Vakuf, Jajce and farther. “Smart heads” shut down “Ciro”, and modern railway never came again to vizier’s town. Only one locomotive, and one wagon left as a symbol of old times. So, you cannot come to Travnik by train.

Although the Travnik is the city of vizier’s and consuls, some celebrities were born in Travnik. Life destiny brought in this city some scientists, artists and other accident passengers. Travnik is birth place of Noble Laureate Ivo Andric, but also a place were the poet Ilhamija was executed.
