VLASIC

The highest peak of the Vlasic mountain, Paljenik, is 1943 meters above see level. Babanovac is at 1260 meters above see level and 28 km distanced from Travnik. “Vlasic cheese” is far known, which local people used to bring to Travnik and sold it there. That’s why this cheese is also known as “Travnik cheese”. It can be still bought at the market in Travnik.
Although the war devastated objects, touristic offer on Vlasic approximates its earlier level. To Vlasic can easily get from different directions: Banja Luka, Travnik and Turbe, and good network of local roads made almost any piece of this mountain accessible for visit and better knowing.

Today, Visitors on Vlasic have possibility to stay in several new and restaurated hotels, motels, and also in private accommodation. Ski-lifts are functioning again, and Babanovac gets new contents every year. Special feeling for skiers presents night skiing, try it!

Every year there was organized "Pokal-Vlašic" on a 90 meters high ski jump with the presence of world’s best ski jumpers. It used to be biggest sports event in Travnik. Now days, the ski jump is ruined and out of use, but it’s a question of day when it will be repaired.

Beside ski jump hill, among sports objects on Vlasic, there are four ski-lifts: “Ugar” with the capacity of 650 skiers in one hour, “Markovac” with also 650 skiers in an hour, double, anchor-lift “Babanovac” with capacity of 2100 skiers in an hour, and the latest built ski-lift ”Visovi” with capacity of 900 skiers in an hour.

Not far from the hotel “Babanovac”, there is “Baby” ski lift (300 skiers in an hour”).

Several mountaineers cottages are built on this mountain(Devecani, Meokrnje, Santic, Galica), and beside mountaineers associations, Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) successfully works on Vlasic.
If you are at Vlasic, beside mentioned locations, try to see the Ugar river, affluent of the Vrbas, which unpredictably changes its nature during the year, so that quiet river, during the snow melting or large precipitations, becomes the real synonym for wildness.
